Weekend Pigskin Roundup: Kell Blasts Pope

Each Monday we'll take a look at what happened on the gridiron over the weekend in Northeast Cobb Patch.

Kell 33, Pope 7 – Sure, Pope’s starting quarterback is recovering from a broken hand and the Greyhounds are without their top receiver, but Kell’s offense still put up 33 points against Pope’s starting defense, head coach Derek Cook told the Marietta Daily Journal.

Brendan Langley and A.J. Redwine each scored twice on the ground and scored on each of its first five possessions to leave no doubt at any moment of the game Friday.

Walton 34, Lassiter 10 – To those watching closely, Walton led this huge Region 5-AAAAA matchup of unbeatens by three at halftime, but were getting outplayed on the field. Whatever head coach Rocky Hidalgo said to the Raiders at halftime worked like a charm.

quarterback Eddie Printz watched for a healthy chunk of the second half, defenseless, as the Raiders chewed up clock and won the time of possession battle. Walton scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to take sole possession of first place in the region and secure East Cobb bragging rights for the season. ()

East Paulding 31, Sprayberry 0 – It’s never a good feeling to lose, but the Yellow Jackets should take some solace in the fact that East Paulding has blanked three other teams this season thus far. The Raiders have a stifling defense that’s allowed just 15 points all season.
