Lassiter Suffers Double Disappointment

AAAAA playoff runs in softball and volleyball ended last week.

In softball, the Region 5-AAAAA champion Lady Trojans dropped the finale of a Georgia High School Association second-round series Friday at home to , 6-1.

Lassiter took the lead on a solo home run from Carli Kayler in the second inning, but the Hawks outhit the Trojans, 8-4, and used Lassiter errors to take the win and the best-of-three series, the Gwinnett Daily Post reported.

Lassiter’s coach, Scott Kelly, told the Daily Post that the better team won and that you don’t win series when you make 12 errors in three games, as the Trojans did.

Lassiter, which , ends the year with a 24-10 record, Georgia Prep Country said.

In volleyball, fifth-seeded Lassiter had a 2-1 lead on the road against fourth-seeded Roswell in the state quarterfinals but lost the final two sets and the match, 11-25, 29-27, 22-25, 25-16, 15-12, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.

Kendal Smith and Carly Crowder led Lassiter with 16 and 12 kills, respectively, the MDJ said.

Roswell will play top-seeded Walton at Parkview High in Lilburn on Wednesday. At the AAAA level, No. 1 Pope will play McIntosh in the semifinals Wednesday at Mount Zion High in Jonesboro.

Lassiter ends the season with a 30-20 record, including straight-sets wins over Newnan (25-11, 25-11, 25-17) and Camden County (25-9, 25-18, 25-23) in the state tournament, Georgia Prep Country said.
