Critical Matchups for Walton, Lassiter

East Cobb rivals Pope and Sprayberry meet Thursday night.

After taking a breather last week, several East Cobb teams return to action this week looking to boost their playoff chances.

Walton plays host to East Cobb rival Wheeler sporting a 3-3 record, and 2-1 in Region 5-AAAAAA.

Lassiter, which beat the Raiders two weeks ago, takes the same record into a home game against Milton in the same region.

Walton and Lassiter are in a three-way tie with Milton for second place in the region. Etowah (6-0, 3-0), which is at the top, has yet to play Walton and Lassiter.

Cherokee, Roswell and Woodstock are all 1-2, so it may go down to the final game of the regular season to determine the top four teams that will reach the playoffs.

At the bottom of the region is Wheeler (2-4 and 0-3), which has been reeling since star quarterback Elijah Staley was kicked off the team earlier this month.

The Wildcats have lost four in a row.

Pope-Sprayberry in Thursday clash

In Region 7B-AAAAA, Pope (2-4, 1-0) is coming off an idle week like Kell, and needs a win at home tonight against struggling Sprayberry (1-5 and 0-1).

Subregion leader Kell (7-0 and 2-0), ranked No. 3 in Class AAAAA, is off this week.

In Region 6B-A, The Walker School (4-2, 2-1) will be at home Friday against King's Ridge Christian (2-4, 1-2).
