Summer Opportunities for Students

From Northside Hospital to Georgia Tech, there are plenty of volunteering and learning opportunities for students throughout the summer.

Irish Life Experience

The Irish Life Experience offers a 25-day high school cultural and academic program for students. The program consists of an assortment of classes, workshops and tours throughout Ireland. In honor of St. Patrick’s Day Season, a $500-$1,000 scholarship is offered to help defray the costs.  Log onto www.IrishLifeExperience.com for information and applications.

Division of Engineering at Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) is holding the Aerospace Engineering Summer Camps for 12-18 year old middle and high school students. The camp will be held on SPSU campus on the following dates:

Camp#1: May 31 - June 3

Camp#2: June 20 - 24

Camp#3: July 25 - 29

Fee for the camp is $125 per student per camp. Students will get a chance to learn the basics of flight, types of aircraft, introduction to helicopters, spaceships, balloons, blimps, sail planes and more. The camp also includes RC flight demos, flight simulator demos, introduction to computer aided design, and paper aircraft flight competitions. Details and registration information can be found here:

Georgia Tech – CEISMC 

CEISMC Programs offers a variety of courses at Georgia Tech this summer. High school students can register for : Chemistry of Biofuels, Career Discovery in Architecture, the Mystery of Lake Clara-Meer, i-Phone Camp – App Game Design for High School, Wall Street on Peachtree Street, and many more.  Check it out at http://www.ceismc.gatech.edu/summercamps/2011/high.html.

Cobb Youth Leadership

The Cobb Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Cobb Youth Leadership program. The program focuses on developing leadership skills through interactive participation.  Students meet with local, state and national leaders helping to frame their leadership style. Apprenticeship Program

The Atlanta Electrical Contractors Association sponsors a Career Day Program to offer students information about the apprenticeship program.  It will be held on Friday, April 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interested students should contact little@atlantaelectrical.org for information.

Northside Hospital – Volunteen Program

Students ages 14-18 may serve as volunteens at Northside Hospital. Applications for the program are located in the School Counseling Office.  There may be a wait list due to the volume of applicants.  

North Fulton Hospital – Volunteer

Applications are available in the School Counseling Office for students interested in being a volunteer at North Fulton Hospital.  Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and two letters of reference.  Applications are due by May 14th.
