State Rep. Don Parsons Speaks About Trust at Sprayberry

Parsons told students that trust is an essential character trait during a Character Education session at Sprayberry in February.

State Rep. Don Parsons (R-Northeast Cobb) recently spoke to Sprayberry High School students as part of the Cobb County School District's Character Education program. Parsons shared his background with students, and then focused on the topic of "trust."Β

Students gave Parsons their undivided attention as he explained that trust is an essential character trait in personal and business relationships.

"As a legislator, you must have trust and integrity among your legislative colleagues, but also you must have trust from lobbyists who provide much of the data that legislation evolves from," Parsons said. "If a legislator losses trust in a colleague or lobbyist, that person will not last very long as either a legislator or a lobbyist."

The Character Education Program

The Character Education program exists in every Cobb school. It was formed to support parents' efforts in developing good character in their children. The schools, parents and communities identified a list of character words and definitions deemed important regardless of a person's political leanings, race, gender or religious convictions. These words and definitions focus on the attitudes and personal qualities that build a foundation for success in life and work.

In addition to the program, every Cobb high school has a positive leadership development class. These classes, called Principled Thinking, focus on development of positive student leadership skills.
