NE Cobb Schools Top SAT Scores

Lassiter was among the county and state leaders in overall average.

For the second year in a row, overall average scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Test dropped slightly for students in Cobb County.

But students at schools in the Northeast Cobb area continued to shine.

Four Cobb high schools -- all in the Northeast Cobb area -- posted average SAT scores of 1600 or higher in figures released Thursday, with Walton topping out at 1741. The others are Lassiter, Pope and Wheeler.

Students in the 16 high schools in the Cobb County School District averaged an SAT score of 1515, down from an average of 1520 in 2012, according to the numbers, which were compiled by the Georgia Department of Education

The figures are still higher than the state of Georgia average of 1452 and the national average of 1498.

Here's more data, analysis and reaction from Cobb schools and superintendent Michael Hinojosa.

Students at Kell averaged a score of 1507, and at Sprayberry the overall average was 1452.

The SAT tests students' college preparedness in critical reading, mathematics and writing skills.

The Cobb averages in each of those areas either held steady or dropped from 2012: reading 512 (same as last year), math 510 (down from 512) and writing 493 (down from 494).

The following scores for Northeast Cobb-area schools include the number of students at each school taking the test, following by mean, or average, scores in critical reading, math and writing, culminating with the overall average score.

For a comparison, here are the 2012 SAT scores compiled and analyzed by the Cobb County School District.

The chart at the bottom are the top high school SAT overall scores statewide, with East Cobb-area schools in bold.
