Proposed Bill Could Tax Girl Scout Cookies

A local mom is livid about bill HB 385 that would impose sales tax to Girl Scout cookies and Boy Scout popcorn sales.

Hi Julia and my Northeast Cobb neighbors,

My name is Marie. I'm the mother of two girls, one of whom is in the Girl Scouts. I am livid about the HB 385 bill that will rewrite the state sales tax code and impose sales tax on Girl Scout cookie and Boy Scout popcorn sales.

My daughter works hard to sell Girl Scout cookies. The girls learn about organization, accounting, and record-keeping. It's a big responsiblity. If HB 385 passes, the kids will be required to calculate and report sales tax for cookies and popcorn sold!

The Girl and Boy Scout fundraisers will be adversely affected. People will stop buying, or buy less.

Is there nothing that the government won't tax? We are taxed to death (literally, and our loved ones taxed on inheritance after we die).

How do Girl and Boy Scout parents, and buyers, feel about this proposed bill?

Please write to the Georgia House of Representatives and ask them not to pass this bill.

Thank you,

Marie L.
