Animal Worker to Appeal Suspension

Cindy Ganues will take her case against Cobb County Animal Control's disciplinary action to the Civil Service Board next Monday.

Cindy Ganues, an animal care specialist with , is appealing a reported 40-hour suspension for removing euthanasia-bound cats from the county shelter during her days off.

She and her attorney, Constance McManus, will take the appeal to the county’s Civil Service Board next Monday.

"Thirty-three years and she's never received a negative review," McManus told Northeast Cobb Patch. "Staff, veterinarians, rescue groups … everyone has nothing but good to say about her."

McManus said Ganues didn’t violate any Cobb County Animal Control rules or policies.

A policy does say an employee's actions, on and off duty, must reflect positively on Cobb County, and McManus said Ganues has done that for more than 30 years.

"She could've retired or taken a bailout last year, but she didn't. She wants to work with the animals," McManus said. Ganues still has her job.

County spokesman Robert Quigley said the county does not discuss disciplinary actions against employees and would not confirm whether Ganues faces a suspension.

The five-member Civil Service Board will hear Ganues’ case Monday at 6 p.m. at the at 100 Cherokee St. off Marietta Square.
