Teen Allegedly Kills Mother

Police reported to the crime scene at Ashley Drive, off Barrett Parkway and immediately arrested an 18-year-old.

Update (8:00 a.m., Tuesday): According to a news release from the Cobb County Police Department, Damian Cornell Purdue McElrath has been charged with aggravated assault and murder in the death of Diane McElrath.

Update (10:25 p.m.): The victim has been identified as 58-year-old Diane McElrath. Her son,Β Damian Cornell Purdue McElrath, 18, has been charged with murder and aggravated assault. He is being held without bond in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Update (6:15 p.m.): According to Cobb County Police Public Information Officer Sgt. Dana Pierce, officers from Precinct 5 responded to the residence at on Ashley Dr. NW at 1:43 p.m. Monday. Upon arriving at the scene, a male was found near the mailbox and detained. Shortly thereafter, police found the body of a woman inside the home.

According to Pierce, authorities are now interviewing the man, who is the victim's son. Brothers of the suspect came to the aid of police and were very helpful during the early stages of the investigation, Pierce said.

Original Story:Β  have arrested a man who allegedly stabbed his mother to death in her Marietta home, according to WSB-TV.

According to the report, police were called to the home and immediately arrested a 19-year-old man, who had originally called the police claiming that he had stabbed his mother.

"She was likely dead," said the caller to police.

Once inside the home, police found the body of a deceased woman.

According to neighbors, the teenager appeared to be a family member of the victim and had recently been released from jail.
