A Cobb Superior Court Judge has sentenced Waseem Daker to life in prison, plus 47 years, for a 17-year-old murder and stabbing case in East Cobb.
Daker was convicted Friday of strangling Karmen Smith in 1995 and stabbing her son, then five years old, at their home.

Cobb County Superior Court Judge Mary Staley refused to toss a felony charge against Jessica Colotl, the Kennesaw State University graduate whose 2010 arrest for a minor traffic violation brought national attention to the issue of illegal immigrants in public colleges.
Colotl completed a pretrial diversion program in February to avoid a conviction for lying to authorities about her address during that 2010 arrest. The program included 150 hours of community service.

An alleged tussle between a Canton father and son on Sunday afternoon left one man in the hospital and one man in jail.
The Canton Police Department said in a release that Anthony Johnson, Sr., 53, has been arrested for aggravated battery in the stabbing of his 25-year-old son, Anthony Johnson, Jr.

The Georgia Supreme Court on Monday upheld the conviction of a man found guilty of stabbing his estranged wife 183 times outside her Acworth home in 2004.
Donovan Shane Leger, also known as Donavon Leger, is serving life plus 20 years in prison for aggravated battery and murder in the death of Tracy Leger on Sept. 6, 2004, according to state Corrections Department records.
