What's the single scene like in Northeast and East Cobb? Find out in this new, feisty column appearing Tuesday on Northeast Cobb Patch.

Have you ever attended a singles meetup group or event in Northeast or East Cobb? If you haven't, you need to, if for no other reason than to people watch. You'll discover, especially after attending more than once, that there are so many singles unable to find a mate. You see the same faces again and again, mingling aimlessly. What is the deal?

My best friend and I attended a singles meet-up group Saturday night, and I kid you not, I felt like I had traveled back in time to “Revenge of the Nerds."  It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. Picture the scene: guys wearing pocket protectors, flip-flops and Hawaiian shirts. What’s up with that? I didn’t realize they still made pocket protectors!

The guys were flitting around like gold fish in a bowl. Many had no idea how to approach a woman, let alone have a conversation.

One man, who has approached my best friend before, kept saying one liners to her, like, "Fish come if you have good bait." The three times that they've seen each other, he makes fishing references or innuendos. What in the world is that about? Could someone please enlighten me?

My girlfriend and I often wonder why two beautiful women such as ourselves have such a hard time dating. Do other Cobb women have the same problem?

Welcome to our world! We will change the names of men mentioned to protect the innocent and hopefully teach some the art of wooing a woman, or what not to do.

I can tell you now, our hands are going to be full.

Every Tuesday on Northeast Cobb Patch we will discuss the dating scene in Cobb, and explore why men and women behave as they do. Add your thoughts, experiences, and comments. Please, help us understand the difficult and often amusing experiences between single men and women.

Hold on. It’s going to be a bumpy ride!
