Diner Offers Southern Gourmet Twist

Sometimes the most tedious part of dining out is figuring where to dine out. Patch makes it easy every Thursday; we find great restaurants for you. This week: West Cobb Diner

Overview: Don’t let the word “Diner” confuse you: West Cobb Diner is actually a nice little restaurant specializing in Southern cuisine - with a gourmet twist. Located at the corner of Dallas Highway and Barrett Parkway, this local eatery has become popular for taking liberties with traditional Southern food favorites and serving them up at moderate prices. The dining room is contemporary and comfortable. Enjoy lunch, dinner and drinks in a warm, friendly atmosphere, 7 days a week.

The Food: There are so many interesting and delicious menu choices, it’s hard to suggest just a few. Most lunch entrees are $8 and under; dinner entrees are about $14 and under. If you are just in the mood for an appetizer or drink, West Cobb Diner offers delectable appetizers you won’t see anywhere else and has a huge selection of wines and beers. Here’s a few menu suggestions, just in case you have a hard time choosing from the savory choices:

Appetizers: The smoked chicken quesadilla –at $7, the most expensive appetizer and worth it- is made with Gouda cheese, Pico de Gallo, roasted poblanos and caramelized onions.

Lunch/Dinner Entrees:  Like any respectable Southern restaurant, West Cobb Diner offers a Meat & 2 Vegetable choice. Especially good are Grammy’s Glazed Meatloaf and Mesquite Skillet Pork Chops with Granny Smith Apple Chutney. The pork chops are moist and tender.

Sides: All the vegetables are fresh.  If available on the day you go, try the homemade mac and cheese, broccoli casserole and/or the butter beans. They are especially good!

Salads:  Mimi’s Italian Chopped Salad  $7 – Chickpeas, artichokes, hearts of palm, roasted peppers, white beans, sun dried tomatoes, crispy eggplant. Add grilled chicken for $2 more.

Note: There's also a variety of burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches on the menu -I TOLD you there was a lot to choose from!

Desserts: Try the Banana Pudding at $4. If you are Southern, you will really appreciate this traditional  favorite. It's made with eggs, cornstarch, sugar and vanilla wafers, just like your Grandma used to make.
