Get Out ... to the Wild West

It's Thursday, the weekend is around the corner, and you have no idea what to do. At Marietta Patch, we have compiled the best bets for a great weekend.

Essential Northeast Cobb happenings for the weekend:

1. Hightail it to the Wild West. The will host a Wild West Fest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at. The event will feature cowboys and cowgirls, gunslingers, fast draw demonstrations, cowboy music and lasso lessons. Visitors can stop by a working chuck wagon to see how cowboys cooked in authentic 1800s style. Cost is $12 per person while children 3 and younger get in free. 2. Hone your tennis skills in practice or test them in competition.

Chuck Kriese, a four-time NCAA coach of the year who once coached the Clemson University men’s tennis team, visits Laurel Park Tennis Center for a benefit for the Marietta Tennis Association. This one-day camp features on-court and classroom instruction for junior tennis players. Call 770-656-3280 or visit www.tennisdynamics.net for information.

Meanwhile, over at the Harrison Tennis Center at 2653 Shallowford Road, the weekend will involved with the Marietta NTRP Challenge for players ranked from 3.0 to 5.0. The event is $17 per player. For information, call 770-591-3151; to register, visit www.usta.com.

3. Learn the basis of digital photography. Local hobby photographer Steve Roy will present a program at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Mountain View Regional Library 3320 Sandy Plains Road, focusing on organization of digital photographs and basic editing techniques. 4. Explore a new version of an old market.Β  The Village Market has a new home in East Cobb. After beginning last fall in the Paper Mill Village Shopping Center, the open-air market returns on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Chattahoochee Baptist Church, 375 Johnson Ferry Road.
The market had trouble earlier this spring because of county restrictions on signs, according to market creator Angela Bermudez, who abruptly closed it. But the church opened its doors -- or rather its parking lot -- to the market, which features arts and crafts, fashion and jewelry, produce, break, antiques, gifts, flowers and more from local merchants.Β 
It will be held the fourth Saturday of every month.

5. Eat spaghetti for a cancer cure. The East Cobb Lions Club challenges you to eat all of the spaghetti you could possible eat from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Powers Ferry United Methodist Church, 245 Powers Ferry Road. It benefits CureSearch for Children's Cancer. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children. Go the club Web site and print and bring the flyer for a free cookie.
