Meet Marilyn Kontrafouris-Eleftheriou and Teddy

Every week Northeast Cobb Patch interviews neighbors and their pooches at the Sweat Mountain dog park.

Marilyn Kontrafouris-Eleftheriou, part-time nurse for Wellstar Health System and Patch contributor, has made many friends and acquaintances during her frequent visits to the dog park with her black Labrador Retriever Teddy.

“I’ve been coming here for several years. I’ve gotten to know a lot of the regulars that visit here, too,” said Kontrafouris-Eleftheriou.

Having grown up in New England, Kontrafouris-Eleftheriou’s family first moved to Northeast Cobb in 1988 in search of better job opportunities.

Kontrafouris-Eleftheriou remained in Northeast Cobb until 1994 when she moved to pursue other interests, only to return in 2001 to be close to her family and live in the place she had grown to love.

“Northeast Cobb has so much to offer. It has a family-like community, and is central to just about everywhere," she said. "There’s also quite a diverse population here. The vast majority of residents have moved to the area from somewhere else.”

Kontrafouris-Eleftheriou said that along with the influx of an ever-growing population, and constant construction, Northeast Cobb still has a significant amount if historical areas that have been left untouched since the early 1800’s. “Just up the road from the park there is a house that was built in 1847. It still has an unattached kitchen which many people used back then to prevent starting a fire in the home. Right here at the park, not too far up the main trail, is a family graveyard that has been there for over 100 years. There is so much more history here just waiting to be explored.”

Be sure to visit the leash-free dog park to spend time outdoors in a friendly environment. Who knows, you could be our next Sweat Mountain Dog Park “citizen of the week."
