Meet Frank Wigington

Frank Wigington is the president of the Northeast Cobb Business Association.

When it comes to selecting a great place to live, Cobb County is one of the best choices one could make, according to Northeast Cobb Business Association President Frank Wigington. He said people move to the area for the school system alone.

“The high schools here have great athletics, great coaches, and great administration,” said Wigington. “The taxes here are reasonable, the government is great, and there are a lot of active churches in the area.”

Born in Kennestone Hospital 59 years ago, Wigington has been here all of his life. He purchased his first home in Kennesaw. He now resides in Northeast Cobb with his wife of over 20 years, Lynn Wigington. The couple has two sons Robert and John, and a daughter-in law Callie.

As a teenager, Wigington attended Sprayberry High School. When it came time for his two sons to attend high school, Wigington exercised his inner leadership capabilities.

“I was the president of their Touchdown Club for a couple of years,” said Wigington. He also served time on School Council.

Being a jack of all trades is not new to Wigington. While serving as husband, father and leader, he was also a business owner. In 1962 his brother started a landscaping company. After 10 years of working together, Wigington purchased the company from his brother and named it Frank Wigington Landscaping Company.

Wigington said that serving as president of the Northeast Cobb Business Association is a great way to meet people and good for his business.

“I like to know what is going on. It's good for business, for my family, and friends. I just enjoy it,” said Wigington.

While serving on the Transportation Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) Committee for Cobb County, Wigington said an organization meeting for the Northeast Cobb Business Association was started by the district commissioner at the time. The focus of the meeting was for businesses to get together and put an association in place. Wigington attended a meeting. He became a board president later. He is now serving his third term at the seven-year-old organization. His mission as president is to make sure the businesses in Northeast Cobb are linked with other businesses throughout the county, he said.

The Northeast Cobb Business Association has strong links to Cobb County Schools. The association is also devoted to community improvement and economic development.

“My mission is to stabilize us financially, which we are right now, and to see if we can help the community and help small businesses. We are all about small businesses,” he said.

When asked what are some of the other things he was proud of Wigington said, “I am thankful for a lot more than I am proud of. I am thankful that I was born in this country. I am thankful for my great family. I am thankful for my friends. I am thankful for this community, and I am just thankful. I am proud to be voting American. I just have to pinch myself.”
