Locate Lost Pets with "The Pet Search Engine"

A Marietta woman created a search engine that harvests pet listings from the Internet.

Marietta resident Dawn Wilson lost her dog. She started a Facebook page called "OliverAlert" for people to post lost and found pets. The page now has over 4,000 friends and growing.

According to Wilson, pet owners can post their pet's picture and information through social media, which is a "virtual flier" that replaces the paper fliers stuck on telephone poles.

In December 2010 Wilson launched a website called AkeKee.com, known as "The Pet Search Engine." AkeKee, like Google, searches websites like Petfinder or AdoptApet.com for pets that are for adoption, for sale, lost and found. It offers pet owners a single interface to access hundreds of thousands of postings compiled from the leading pet websites.Β
