Bus Riders, Others to Feel the Heat

Here's what you need to know to start the day July 12.

1. Today’s a contender for the hottest day of the year, with a high of at least 97 and a heat index into the triple digits, the National Weather Service says. The overnight low will be no cooler than 73. A heat advisory and a Code Orange smog advisory are in effect, and there’s a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. 2. Three CCT routes, including the buses that run along those routes for riders with disabilities, when the Cobb County Board of Commissioners meets this morning at 9 at 100 Cherokee St., just off Marietta Square. 4. On a more family-friendly note, Michaels continues its free Passport to Fun craft sessions for ages 3 and up today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drop into the or location, and your children can travel to Russia to design Russian nesting dolls and big Russian bear.

5. Getting into and out of isn’t a lot of fun this summer with the construction and the Shallowford Road entrance being closed, but if you need school counseling services, they’ll be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today for the first time since June. Counselors will maintain the same office hours Wednesday and Thursday, then Monday through Thursday the next two weeks.
