Ax the Tax SPLOST Rally

Opponents of the 2011 SPLOST will rally in Glover Park at Marietta Square Saturday to demonstrate against the continuation of the one percent sales tax.

James Bell, director of Georgia Taxpayers Alliance, Inc. (GTA) and host of Saturday's rally, believes the one percent sales tax is estimated to cost taxpayers nearly $600 million over four years.

The rally will help to educate voters of the March 15th vote and give opponents of the tax a forum to express their views why the tax should be discontinued, he said.

GTA believes that by voting against SPLOST Cobb County will reduce its sales tax by 16%, which will be a boost to the local economy and local businesses.

The 'Ax the Tax' SPLOST Rally happens Saturday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Glover Park at Marietta Square.

“Parks have historically been used by citizens as a public forum to express their opinions and generate attention to a cause," Bell said. “Our goal is to generate public awareness of the tax vote and give the citizens a forum to express themselves through music and speech.”

Cobb business owners and local residents are expected to speak against the tax during the rally.

Live entertainment will be provided by the local Blue Grass Band “Out
of the Blue."
