Trojans Move On with OT Win

Lassiter squeaks by Alpharetta in the first round of the state playoffs.

The needed overtime to beat in the first round of the state AAAAA football playoffs Friday, but in the end all anyone at Lassiter cared about was the 17-16 win on the road.

Senior cornerback Niles Clark, an early commitment to North Carolina State University, came around the right side of the line and blocked an Alpharetta extra point to give the Trojans the win, the Marietta Daily Journal reported.

That completed Lassiter's comeback from a 10-0 first-half deficit.

A touchdown pass from Trojan quarterback Eddie Printz midway through the second quarter cut the deficit to 10-7 and set up a dramatic fourth quarter and beyond, Alpharetta-Milton Patch reported.

After an interception stopped an Alpharetta drive at the Lassiter 1-yard line with about six minutes to play, Printz led his team 76 yards down the field to set up Alex Hanks' tying field goal, the MDJ reported.

Printz was 28-for-44 on the night for 281 yards.

Hanks had a chance to win the game in regulation but missed a kick as the fourth quarter ended, Alpharetta-Milton Patch said.

Both teams scored in overtime.

Lassiter was first when Printz found Juwan Dickey in the end zone, and the extra point, which proved decisive, was good.

Lassiter moved to 8-3 on the season and will travel to (10-1) next Friday to take on the Indians in the second round of the GHSA Class AAAAA State Football Championships.
