New Video Promo for The Art Place

Ever wondered about all that happens at The Art Place? A new video has been released to describe all the programs, events and the sense of community at the Sandy Plains Road facility, part of the Cobb Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Affairs. Nelah Gabler, The Art Place coordinator, narrates this five-minute promotional tour of all that the facility has to offer. The Art Place Presents 'The Nerd'

This month's Bring Your Own Dinner show runs from tonight through Saturday.

Larry Shue’s theatre performance of "The Nerd" will be held March 21-23 at 8 p.m. at The Art Place, located at 3320 Sandy Plains Road in Northeast Cobb. An aspiring young architect in Terre Haute, Indiana, Willum Cubbert has often told his friends about the debt he owes to Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam. He has written to Rick to say that, as long as he is alive, "you will have somebody on Earth who will do anything for you" so Willum is delighted when Rick shows up unexpectedly at his apartment on the night of his thirty-fourth birthday party. But his delight soon fades as it becomes apparent that Rick is a hopeless nerd. Rick stays on and on, and his …

Summer Camp Sign-Up at The Art Place

Registration for children's art lessons began this week.

Spring has barely sprung but The Art Place has opened registration for summer camp art lessons. Registration began Wednesday, and this summer's camp titles include the following: The above link has more detailed information about each camp, including session dates, times and fees. You can register your child at The Art Place, located at 3330 Sandy Plains Road, during its regular hours, or online anytime.

'The Nerd' Coming to The Art Place

Tickets are on sale now for this month's Bring Your Own Dinner show.

Delta Moon to Offer Art Place Sneak Preview

Southern blues band to perform at Northeast Cobb venue in August.

Fresh off their European tour, Delta Moon – a band that represents the heartbeat of the “American South” – is rocking the stage at 8 tonight at the Barnes Mable House Amphitheatre in Mableton. Delta Moon also will feature in a Southern blues concert at The Art Place in Northeast Cobb on Aug. 20, along with the Mississippi Blues band. It's part of The Art Place's Summer Star Series tonight with the final show of "The Drowsy Chaperone" by the Cabaret Performance Camp. Tom Gray, a co-founder of Delta Moon, says the band plays Marietta area venues regularly. The band has a grass roots following that originated right here in our backyard. “Delta Moon is the South; The Hellbound Train album drew a lot from living in the South,” Gray says of …

How do you feel about the decision at Tuesday's Cobb County Planning Commission meeting to deny Marietta Recycling's land-use permit application to operate a scrap metal yard and transfer station on Canton Road?  I can only imagine the amount of metal waste produced in our large county. Recycling is important. If not the Canton Road property, where should a scrap metal yard and transfer station be located? The Planning Commission recommended denying the Marietta Recycling application by a 5-0 vote. It is up to the Board of Commissioners to vote it up or down, which will occur on Tuesday, May 17.
