The two Northeast Cobb schools are participating in a national "Fuel Up to Play 60" initiative.
Two of the six Cobb County schools that recently received grants from the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association are in the Northeast Cobb area. Mountain View Elementary School and McCleskey Middle School have received grants ranging from $2,000 to $3,780 to support the Fuel Up To Play 60 national initiative. The National Dairy Council, the National Football League, and the United States Department of Agriculture launched the initiative as part of an effort to get people active for 60 minutes a day. Fuel Up To Play 60 also encourages participants to eat nutrient rich foods. In addition to Mountain View and McCleskey, grants were awarded to:

Stacy Osborne Duffy has been named the Elementary Science Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Science Teachers Association.

From a release sent by the Cobb County School District: Stacey Osborne Duffy of Mountain View Elementary School was announced as statewide Elementary Science Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Science Teachers Association. Each year, GSTA recognizes recognizes ongoing excellence in science education and the commitment to its improvement by selecting state winners for elementary, middle and high school levels. A Mountain View Elementary School special education teacher charged this week with battery against a student is being recommended for termination. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitutiton, Mountain View principal Renee Garris is seeking the dismissal of Sarah Katherine Johnson, who has been placed on administrative leave. Johnson turned herself in on Monday, was charged with one count of simple battery, a misdemenaor, and released on a $500 bond. She is accused of grabbing a male student by the arms out of his chair and dropping him on the floor in an incident that allegedly took place last Thursday.
