The Cobb Board of Commissioners and WellStar Health System officials celebrated the establishment of a senior community clinic will sign a partnership agreement today at the site of the Cobb Senior Services campus in Powder Springs Station. The clinic will be an important part of the Senior Wellness Center, currently under construction at 1150 Powder Springs St in Marietta. and slated to open in late August. The clinic will provide free, preventive and chronic healthcare services for eligible, low-income seniors who are uninsured Cobb residents aged 55 to 64. Cobb Senior Services and Cobb County Animal Control are partnering to help senior cats find homes with senior adults. "Cats make wonderful companions and are relatively easy to care for, offering unconditional love," a release from the county government says. There will be four free opportunities this summer to learn more about: "Open your heart and home to an older cat that might otherwise be put down," the release says. Carol Horn has spent her retirement years delivering hot food and smiles to seniors through the East Cobb Senior Center's Meals on Wheels program.
Carol Horn, a Meals on Wheels volunteer at the East Cobb Senior Center, has delivered hot meals and a cheery face to homebound Northeast Cobb residents for 12 years. “I’ve gotten to know a lot of people on my route very well over the years, and I’ve come to view many of them as family,” Horn said. Horn, a retiree, decided at a young age that upon retirement she would be a volunteer for Meals on Wheels because her father was a recipient of the program’s services in the 1960s. “It’s a wonderful program, and it can make such a big difference in the lives of people that can’t get out on their own or can’t afford a proper meal. We don’t just provide food; sometimes we may be the only person some of our recipients see on a regular basis," she …
