Cobb Summer Camp Expo Is Thursday

Get all the information you need before you register your children for camp.

Have you finalized summer plans for your kids? If not, head over to the Cobb Civic Center this Thursday. With the 2012-13 school year winding down, the Cobb Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is hosting an expo from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to provide details about its day camps, art camps, church camps, overnight camps, performing arts programs and tennis camps. Get Out to Marietta Gun Show, Wonderful Days of Winter 5K

Some more weekend events to consider in the Marietta and Cobb area.

1. The Marietta Gun Show is Saturday, Jan. 5 and Sunday, Jan. 6 at the Cobb Civic Center, 548 S Marietta Pkwy. Saturday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gun show is hosted by Eastman Gun Shows.  2. The Wonderful Days of Winter 5K/1 Mile will take place at St. James' Episcopal Church on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 8 a.m. 3. The Georgia Bridal Show is Sunday, Jan. 6 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Cobb Galleria.

Get Out ... with Birds in the Backyard?

It's Thursday, the weekend is around the corner, and you have no idea what to do. At Northeast Cobb Patch, we have compiled the best bets for a great weekend.

Essential Cobb happenings for the weekend: 1. Learn how to add music to your garden. The Cobb County Master Gardeners from noon to 1 p.m. Friday will present “Lunch & Learn: Birds in the Backyard” at the Cobb County Central Library. The program is designed to show bird lovers how to attract a wide variety of the feathered friends by choosing plants that appeal to specific species and by providing appropriate nesting and water sources to create a bird-friendly habitat. Bring your lunch. 2. Celebrate Gone with the Wind. In the 1930s, the connections between Margaret Mitchell and Gone with the Wind with Marietta were nebulous, if not non-existent. But the folks at the Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum have managed to change that……
