BCS Dead; Can the Dawgs, Jackets Make Playoff?

Now that the computerized Bowl Championship Series is a lame duck, it's time to look forward to the college football playoff system.

A landmark decision regarding the controversial Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and a potential playoff system for Division I college football was made by a group of college chancellors, conference presidents, university presidents and an oversight committee on Tuesday. As of 2014, the BCS will cease to exist. In its place will be a four-team bowl game playoff system. The winners of the semifinal games will go to the non-bowl National Championship. The semifinal games will be rotated between six bowls. The four playoff teams will be selected by committee, much like the NCAA Basketball Tournament. This will herald the end of the much-maligned computer calculations that determined rankings in the BCS. The new criteria will be win-loss record…
