BCS Dead; Can the Dawgs, Jackets Make Playoff?
Now that the computerized Bowl Championship Series is a lame duck, it's time to look forward to the college football playoff system.
A landmark decision regarding the controversial Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and a potential playoff system for Division I college football was made by a group of college chancellors, conference presidents, university presidents and an oversight committee on Tuesday. As of 2014, the BCS will cease to exist. In its place will be a four-team bowl game playoff system. The winners of the semifinal games will go to the non-bowl National Championship. The semifinal games will be rotated between six bowls. The four playoff teams will be selected by committee, much like the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
