Sunshine on a Ranney Day will help build a special bedroom to accommodate the Woodstock woman who was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident.
The Roswell-based charity known for helping families in need is expanding its reach into Woodstock. Sunshine on a Ranney Day has stepped and offered to help the family of Emily Bowman prepare for the Woodstock woman to return from Children's Health Care at Scottish Rite. Holly Ranney, co-founder of the organization, said volunteers will soon begin work on converting two rooms on the ground level of the family home into one large, wheelchair accessible room Bowman can use once she's discharged from the hospital. A wheelchair accessible ramp will be built outside to allow Bowman to come inside the home. The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta's job fair next week will have a plethora of job openings available.
Next week's job fair for the Outlet Shoppes of Atlanta will have no shortage of positions that need to be filled. Over 500 part-time and full-time openings are slated to be available, ranging from management, sales associates, housekeeping, stock and maintenance work, according to a press release from the Georgia Department of Labor GDOL will team up with the outlet mall for the job fair, which will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 23 at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center in Canton. Timothy Austin, who died while riding on Bells Ferry Road this week, will be laid to rest on Saturday in Marietta.
Funeral services are set for the Woodstock man who was struck and killed on Wednesday after his bicycle entered the Bells Ferry Road. The funeral for Timothy Austin, 42, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta. Interment will follow at the Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Austin was cycling southbound on the sidewalk along Bells Ferry Road near the Cherokee-Cobb County border around 4 p.m. on Wednesday when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the bicycle and entered oncoming traffic, said Cobb County Police Department Spokesman Mike Bowman. A Woodstock resident recently purchased a Georgia Lottery ticket worth $250,000. Glenis Morales purchased a ticket for the Atlanta Falcons Cash Blowout instant game at Kroger in Towne Lake. Morales claimed her prize on Nov. 7 at the Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta. She and her husband Eduardo have three children and are excited about the win. “We’re looking to buy a new house,” said Morales. Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $13.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. The City of Woodstock on Monday will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony. The event, held in conjunction with the American Legion Post 316 and the Marine Corps League Detachment 1311, will be held at 7 p.m. at the Park at City Center. The candlelight ceremony will feature special guest speakers, the Together In Harmony choral group, guitarist Kareem Rea and the Etowah High School Air Force JROTC. As a special tribute to our Vietnam veterans, the city will include songs from that era, yellow ribbons and each Vietnam Vet attending will receive a P-51 Can Opener provided by the Warriors’ Watch Riders. The wrestler's wife spoke to TMZ about his progress.
Sprayberry alumnus and pro wrestler Marcus "Buff" Bagwell is recovering from last Monday's crash when he flipped his Jeep in the Towne Lake area. Judy Bagwell, his wife, told TMZ that he'd been hooked to a breathing tube in the emergency room while doctors scrambled to treat face and spine injuries, but the tube was removed Wednesday and he's eating, talking and breathing on his own. She told TMZ that the accident-causing seizure likely resulted from medication. Bagwell has suffered such seizures in the past, she said.

Hundreds gathered at the Park at City Center despite the rain for the annual Menorah Lighting Ceremony to enjoy hot latkes, live music and of course, the lighting of a 10-foot menorah to celebrate the start of Hanukkah. The Chabad Jewish Center, which serves Cherokee, North Cobb and South Bartow counties, sponsored the community Festival of Lights. Special guest speakers included State Sen. Chip Rogers and State Rep. Charlice Byrd. Rogers was given the honor to light the Shamash candle, the center candle while Rabbi Zalman Charytan, director of the Chabad Jewish Center, lit the first candle for the first night.
