Weekend Spotlight: Veterans Day [VIDEO]

Find out how you can celebrate Veterans Day this weekend and support your local veterans by participating in the Distribution of Poppies.

The City of Smyrna is holding a Veterans Day ceremony at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Brinkley Park, in addition to the Veterans Day service held by The American Legion Post 160 at 11 a.m. outside of the Legion office on 160 Legion Drive. This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend Spotlight features an area Veterans Day event in Smyrna where residents can show their support for local veterans. The 5th Annual Smyrna Veterans Day Service will be held this Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at Brinkley Park next to The American Legion Post 160 office at 160 Legion Drive SE in Smyrna. The event is open to the public, and residents are encouraged to arrive by 1:45 p.m. Residents can help support local veterans and their families by making donations at the …

Woodstock To Honor Veterans

The city's annual ceremony will be held on Monday.

The City of Woodstock on Monday will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony. The event, held in conjunction with the American Legion Post 316 and the Marine Corps League Detachment 1311, will be held at 7 p.m. at the Park at City Center. The candlelight ceremony will feature special guest speakers, the Together In Harmony choral group, guitarist Kareem Rea and the Etowah High School Air Force JROTC. As a special tribute to our Vietnam veterans, the city will include songs from that era, yellow ribbons and each Vietnam Vet attending will receive a P-51 Can Opener provided by the Warriors’ Watch Riders. Keheley Students Honor Veterans

The Northeast Cobb elementary school held several events this week in advance of Veteran's Day.

Keheley Elementary School students and staff members honored U.S. veterans this week with a variety of special activities and events.   “We have a number of students who have a parent or grandparent who now serves in the military, or has served in year’s past,” said Liz Jackson, principal. “We feel it’s important to honor these members of our students’ families, and also to emphasize to all of our students the importance of the contributions that veterans have made to our country.”   As part of its salute to veterans, Keheley Elementary, family members, and the school’s community committee hosted Veterans Day family lunches on Nov. 8 and 9. Free Meals and Discounts for Veterans

Northeast Cobb Patch has compiled a list of restaurant and retail offers honoring veterans.

 Many restaurants and companies want to thank our veterans by providing  discounts on retail merchandise or a free meal. To take advantage of the offers please note the following:     Applebee’s – free meal, Friday. Last year, Applebee’s served 1,024,000 million free meals to military veterans and active servicemembers. Applebee’s is again offering a free meal to military veterans and active-duty service members on Veteran’s Day. There are seven entrées to choose from. Military ID or proof of service required. Chili’s – free meal, Friday. Chili’s is offering all military veterans past and present their choice of one of six meals. This offer is available from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Friday at participating Chili’s. Dine-in from limited menu …

Veterans Day Events

Veterans Day is Friday. Here is a list of events honoring veterans in and around Northeast Cobb.

Fifth-grade students at Shallowford Falls Elementary will present that school’s Thirteenth Annual Veteran’s Day Concert on Friday. Two performances are scheduled, at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Patriotic music, dance numbers, and a moving tribute to our armed forces members past and present are planned. A reception will follow each performance. Approximately 125 students along with several professional guest musicians will join together to honor veterans in the community.
