The recent incidents that led to the firing and arrest of James Chadwick Brigham were the latest in a litany of inappropriate conduct, documents reveal.
The Kell High School teacher who was arrested for alleged sexual misconduct with students was not a stranger to improper behavioir, according to documents acquired by the Marietta Daily Journal. According to James Chadwick Brigham's discipline file, he was previously suspended for seven days for calling a student's boyfriend a, "sheet head" and commented on the size of the private parts of a nude fresco. Additionally, Brigham made comments to students who were fired by a Dunkin Donuts about "fooling around in the back" of the store. Updated: The Marietta Daily Journal reported Friday that Brigham was accused of slapping the buttocks of a female student in a classroom and slapped another student's face with an open hand. Updated 9:40 p.m. Retiring Kell High School principal Trudie Donovan turned herself in to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center Thursday after being charged by Cobb Police with a misdemeanor for failing to report child abuse. According to booking reports, Donovan was processed around 7 p.m. Thursday and was being held on a $1,000 bond. Kell High School will be getting a new principal in the upcoming academic year after Trudie Donovan retired on Friday. The Marietta Daily Journal reported that Donovan, who had been in charge of the Northeast Cobb school for six years, stepped down "abruptly." Earlier in the week, Cobb school superintendent Michael Hinojosa told the newspaper she had been involved recently in "a situation involving the reporting of a student matter.” Citing personnel reasons, he would not elaborate further, nor would he indicate whether Donovan would have been terminated had she not resigned. No Kevin, you are incorrect. An administrator should first determine if a statement made by a student has validity and not have a knee-jerk reaction. I personally would never bring the police into an area under my charge without first performing an investigation. That is what she was doing.
