Readers Choose Tellus for Nearby Getaway

The Cartersville science museum is your pick for a family-friendly place to spend time on a staycation.

It appears that when you want to get away without really going away, you go to Cartersville. In this week’s regional Readers’ Choice survey of staycation destinations, three of the top four vote-getters are Cartersville sites: Tellus Science Museum, Pine Mountain Recreation Area and Booth Western Art Museum. And even though six of the 19 poll options are in Cartersville Patch, commenters complained about a couple of the Cartersville sites we left off the list. So it’s only fitting that this week’s Readers’ Choice for favorite staycation destination is in Cartersville: the Tellus museum. Memorial Day is only three weeks away, meaning summer vacation season is almost here. But with gas prices still above $3.50 a gallon and round-trip airfare for a family of four running more than $1,200 to get just about anywhere, a staycation is an enticing option. You avoid the expense and stress of travel. You don’t have to stop the mail or board the pets. But you still get the time away from work and with your family.
