Northeast Cobb Football's On the Road

Each Northeast Cobb football squad is away this Friday.

Lovers of Northeast Cobb's three high school football teams will have to spend a little more time on the road in order to attend this week's action in person. Kell, Sprayberry and Lassiter are all visiting their respective opponents this week, and are looking to spoil some home cooking. Let's see where our road warriors will be and who they will be up against. The Longhorns are coming off a 42-13 loss at the hands of rival Lassiter, and look to rebound at Creekview. The Grizzlies had a bye week last week after handling River Ridge 34-14 at the Grizzly Den. Creekview is 2-0 on the young season. Sprayberry's Yellow Jackets will be at Forsyth Central to square off against the Bulldogs. Winless on the season, the Bulldogs most recently fell to…

Lassiter, Sprayberry Renew Rivalry Tonight

The Northeast Cobb football powerhouses will meet each other for the first time in 2012.

The debut games of both Sprayberry and Lassiter High School left their respective fan bases with plenty of questions. For the Jackets, a late interception by Allen Artis of Wheeler turned victory into defeat on Aug. 24. Sprayberry used Torrey Richardson as a running quarterback and Shane Young for passing plays, and this one-two combination sparked the …

VIDEO: Late Interception Dooms Sprayberry

Despite valiant work by the Jackets defense and a late 3rd quarter touchdown, a late pick six ruined opening night.

There were six minutes left in the fourth quarter. Sprayberry High School fans were looking forward to a 7-3 victory, built on a strong defense and costly penalties from Wheeler High School. It wasn't to be. Wheeler's Allen Artis read the route of the Jackets' receiver and picked off a screen pass in the slot. Artis ran it in for a touchdown to grasp victory from the jaws of defeat. Torrey Richardson scored Sprayberry's touchdown with 1:15 left in the third quarter, giving the Jackets a 7-3 lead.  The defensive play of the night was a fumble recovered by senior Atuan Johnson at the Sprayberry goal line with 1:46 left in the 2nd quarter.

It's finally football season! Find out who's who in Northeast Cobb Football.

Cooper, a 5-foot-2, 160 lb. runningback, tore up the field in 2011, leading all rushers with 692 rushing yards and catching 19 passes for 142 yards. These impressive stats led to All-Region First Team honors for Cooper. Big (6-foot, 200 lb.) linebacker Johnson pummeled opponents into submission with 89 tackles last season, including 9 tackles for loss, one fumble recovery and one pass defended. During last week's …
