Private practice serving Cobb children and adolescents uses creativity to teach coping skills, reduce anxiety, increase self esteem, and communicate feelings.
Respect and love. It’s rare to read, watch or hear a leading news story that highlights goodness. The simple explanation is that extraordinary events are newsworthy and common events are not. Coverage of the lethal mayhem at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school earlier this month put mental health on the public agenda. Community response following the unexpected violent act includes examples of the healthy feelings of respect and love expressed to those who are grieving. Art It Out Therapy Center founder/director Teresa Woodruff believes that most children will hear about the classroom horror in Connecticut and suggests to parents, “Tell your version of the event, keep it simple, make your child feel safe. Tell them they are safe. You can …

Atlanta’s Santas owner Steph Seibert keeps her booking agency business in perspective: “All the men I represent are Santa’s helpers. The real St. Nicholas is not seen.” According to the nonprofit St. Nicholas Center, the third-century Bishop of Myra is the patron saint to an expansive list including: lawyers; judges; the unjustly condemned; sailors; perfumers; pawn brokers; bakers; the poor; lovers; and children. It is believed that St. Nick was born to wealthy parents in what is now Turkey and was orphaned at a …

This full-service florist in Woodlawn Point Shopping Center stocks unique gifts including handcrafted jewelry and American-made felt purses.
Who are you going to call? Birthday, thank you, special occasion centerpiece or just because, are a few reasons people give fresh cut flowers. Flowers of Marietta owner Richard Nurik believes that customer service, premium flowers and unique designs are what keeps his phone ringing. “In 2004 there were six florists on Johnson Ferry between Lower Roswell and Shallowford roads,” Nurik shares, “We’re the only one left.” He believes the stale economy has affected the fresh flower budgets of his corporate clients but not individuals’ spending habits. He does, however, see a customer behavior change. “The economy has ratcheted up people’s expectations,” Nurik states, “Our job is to ask a few questions to help a customer express what they’re …
