Marietta Police to Hold Another Gun Safety Seminar

The Marietta Police Department's Firearm Safety Seminar is designed for civilians and will cover a variety of topics including: safety, laws and alternative weapon usage.

The Marietta Police Department’s Training Unit will host a Firearm Safety Seminar on Thursday, Feb. 28. This seminar is designed for civilians and will cover a variety of topics including: safety, laws and alternative weapon usage.  The seminar is free of charge.  “This program has been developed to educate the citizens on current firearm laws and weapon safety. We want to equip citizens with the knowledge and skills so they feel confident owning and handling a firearm or weapon if they choose to do so,” said Sergeant Jake King of the Marietta Police Training Unit.  The Firearm Safety Seminar will be held in the Marietta City Hall Council Chambers, located at 205 Lawrence Street in Marietta. Safety Tips, Laws for Going Back to School

The Marietta Police Department offers advice on getting to work and school on time and reviews bus laws.

Monday, Aug. 13 is the start of the up-coming school year for the Cobb County School District. Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will increase, especially in subdivisions and apartment complexes. Large numbers of parents and children will be congregating on street corners. Marietta Police are advising residents to slowdown and pay careful attention in these areas and watch for buses and as they stop to load and unload their passengers.  Allow for extra time to get to work or to drop kids off at school. Reduced speed limits in school zones will be active and indicated by flashing yellow lights.  As a reminder, state law requires that traffic in both directions stop for school buses loading and unloading their passengers. Apply to Be a Firefighter

Cobb County will be offering tests for the open positions Jan. 10-13.

Was firefighter one of your dream jobs when you were a child? Here’s your chance to make your dream come true. Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services will be offering written exams for entry-level firefighters Jan. 10-13, according to a county news release. The position has a starting annual salary of $38,355 and includes health and dental coverage, a retirement plan, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, deferred compensation, and holiday and sick leave. Applications will be accepted through Dec. 23. To apply, you must be 18 or older by the test dates and have a valid driver’s license. Photo IDs will be checked the day of the test.
