The 80th annual North Georgia State Fair is in town, and there are many ways to enjoy it at a discount or for free. Once you’ve paid the admission price, there are shows, concerts and children’s activities that are free of charge. Local businesses are featuring discount tickets, and the fair itself offers great discounts on certain days and times. Here is a “need-to-know” list that will help your family get the most out of your experience at the fair. The great James H. It's that time of year again. The 8th annual North Georgia State Fair will begin Thursday and run through Sunday at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta. Attracting nearly 300,000 people in years past, the fair is the largest in metro Atlanta and the second largest in Georgia. With midway rides, shows, concerts, pageants, entertainment and food, there is something for everyone. The Georgia Lottery Concert Series for the fair begins at 8 p.m. under the covered area. Concerts are included with paid fair admission. We made it out to the North Georgia State Fair at Jim R. Miller Park last weekend. Took three generations of the family out on a sunny Sunday afternoon to see what we could see. I’d been meaning to go for years but never got around to it. I grew up in a town with a major county fair that included animal exhibits and blue ribbons for everything from squash to pies. From that standpoint, the North Georgia State Fair falls short. It’s really more of a big carnival with a few exhibits and a petting zoo thrown in to give it a patina of authentic, old-time fair-ness. But for what it does have, this Fair is quite a hoot. The theme this year is "Take a Ride on the Wild Side," which celebrates the new Wildcat Rollercoaster. Also new this year are: Returning from pervious years are: All of the shows are free with paid admission to the fair. Daily Schedule and Concerts: Sept. 22: North Georgia State Fair Beauty Pageant.
