App Aids in Finding Rides for New Year's Eve

If you're planning to drink on New Year's Eve, check out this app.

A smartphone app provided by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety will give New Year's Eve partygoers a way to find a ride home with just the swipe of a finger. The Drive Sober, Georgia app also will provide users with information about drinking and driving. The app can be downloaded for Android and iPhone, and a simulation is available here.  According to a news release from the Cobb County Police Department, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism last year reported two to three times more people died in alcohol-related vehicle crashes over the winter holidays compared to periods during the rest of the year.
