The latest zombie movie out shows you that you don't have to have a pulse to fall in love
Good girl meets ghoul in the latest romantic comedy called "Warm Bodies." The film is playing at GTC Merchants Walk 12 and GTC Park 12 Cobb. Nicholas Hoult plays a teenage zombie slacker who falls head over heels in love with Teresa Palmer, who is very much alive. Somehow the chemistry between the two works, even though the flirting can be a bit awkward. You never really know what thoughts are lurking behind those blank stare, but enough about non-zombie supporting cast member John Malkovich. "Warm Bodies" is a fun little film that has successfully mashed up a romantic comedy, slapstick and cheese. The teenage and Twilight film crowd should eat it up, even though it lacks brains. (drum roll). The flick-o-meter gives "Warm Bodies" a solid …

Arnold is on the screen, so you know what to expect -- bullets and action.
Arnold is back from being a two-term governor to playing a small-town sheriff. Arnold Schwarzenegger plays a semi-retired sheriff in an sleepy southwest border town. He and his motley crew must now stop a notorious drug kingpin from escaping into Mexico in "The Last Stand." The movie is playing locally at the GTC Merchants Walk 12 and the GTC Park 12 Cobb. The bullets fly. There is plenty of action. But the star looks a bit rusty. You quickly come to the realization that this film is undeniably ludicrous. Look, Arnold has never been a good actor, but it's a bit worse since he got back from being the "Governator." So what does he do to make up for his lack of talent? Cue an explosive montage! This movie is simply a testosterone-infused …

Tom Cruise plays an ex-Army investigator who puts the smackdown on just about everyone he meets.
Tom Cruise delves out the punishment as an ex-miltary guy roped into a murder investigation. He's got to take out the bad guys, save the girl and find the real killer in "Jack Reacher." The film is being shown at the GTC Merchants Walk 12 and GTC Park 12 Cobb. The Jack Reacher book series has been popular for years, now it's moving to the big screen under Cruise control, with the actor as a quiet and deadly man. Cruise is the rare action star who brings both brawn and brains to a role, but in this case he's limited by a weak script. He does, however, excel during the action scenes. Packing quite a punch. A real kick in the pants. See the video here, you will know what I'm talking about. What you see is what you get in this movie. Action, …

This week's review is like getting six movies for the price of one. It's nearly a three-hour mind-bender they may just leave you scratching your head.
Six major plot lines taking place over 500 years -- featuring the same actors playing multiple roles -- is what you get with "Cloud Atlas." The movie is playing in Northeast Cobb at the GTC Park 12 Cobb theater. All of the stories are crosscut together, jumping back and forth from one another across different time periods ranging from a 19th century South Pacific sea voyage to the distant post-apocalyptic future where humanity lives on the very brink of extinction. The cast includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Susan Sarandon, Hugo Weaving and Hugh Grant. They do their best to tell the secrets of the universe and the human heart while leaving you, well, confused. "Cloud Atlas" is simply too long and too scatterbrained. The central…

If you enjoy watching characters sleep while their furniture moves around them, I have just the movie.
A Nevada family plays host to a very odd 6-year-old neighbor boy whose unseen mother has suddenly been hospitalized in "Paranormal Activity 4." The movie is playing in Northeast Cobb at the GTC Park Cobb12. A group of young unknown actors jump into the Paranormal Activity formula without a hitch. The long stretches of green night-cam footage manage to creep you out as you try to figure out if you just saw movement in the corner. And when something eventually flies across the screen, no matter how much you try to anticipate it, you jump. A neighborhood witches' coven plays into the proceedings, adding to the drama. In the end, as expected, all you really get is a whole bunch of jolts and scares. If you have seen any of the previous films, …

It's funny, adventurous, creepy, and even sentimental and with it being in black and white AND 3D, I think it's going to be a hit.
It's part Frankentstein, part Lassie but somehow director Tim Burton makes it work in this stop-motion animation simply called "Frankenweenie." The movie is playing in Northeast Cobb at the GTC Park 12 Cobb. It's the story of a young boy (Frankenstein) who uses all of his talents to bring back his beloved dead dog. There are a lot of references to old horror movies all wrapped up in a heartwarming boy-and-his-dog film the whole family should enjoy. Several celebrities lend their voices to this film that should appeal most to mom and dad. Fans of Boris Karloff will also enjoy this. It's strange in a Tim Burton kind of way but, in my opinion, some of his best work in a long, long time. The characters are all pretty amusing and Victor …

The fifth movie in the franchise has plenty of action and plenty of zombies—all in 3D. Simply put, it may be the best one yet.
Milla Jovovich jumps back into her role as Alice. This time, she's trapped inside a compound making this a great rescue mission, as she tries to escape the land of zombies in "Resident Evil: Retribution." Fans of the franchise will love the resurrection of some familiar actors from other Resident Evil movies, along with some new ones. This film feels more like a video game than previous films because Alice has to go through different levels to escape. The acting, overall, is not that great. But, really, fans of the franchise aren't there for that. It's all about the action, and there is plenty of it. The Moscow scene involving a Rolls-Royce car chase and Russian zombies was perhaps my favorite. But I digress. Die-hard fans of the series …

Bradley Cooper plays a writer who rips off another writer who just happened to be Jeremy Irons. Bad idea? Oh, I think so...
Bradley Cooper wants to be a professional writer but he can't because, well, he's not good enough. He comes across a transcript form shelved for years, publishes it, and tells the world it's his work when we ALL know it's not "The Words." Jeremy Irons plays the writer who actually wrote the book. He confronts Cooper's character, accusing him of plagiarism, and then proceeds to tell him his back story, thus slowing down the film to a turtle's pace. Other actors in the film include small roles from Zoe Saldana, Dennis Quaid and Olivia Wilde. Despite a talented cast, the film seemed a bit jumbled toward the middle. You see, there are actually three different stories going on, making it difficult to follow because they are not chronological. …

An all-star cast goes bootlegging in a film full of violence and great acting.
The summer is wrapping up, and we already have a film that has Oscar implications. Tom Hardy plays legendary bootlegger Forrest Bondurant, and Guy Pierce is hot on his trail in "Lawless," a film full of violence and great acting. There is never a dull moment in this film that is narrated by Shia LaBeof, who plays Forrest's younger brother. Pierce plays a psychotic federal agent hell-bent on stopping the brothers. Jessica Chastain plays a former dancer and Hardy's love interest. She becomes his partner in crime in this film about moonshine bootlegging and its life-changing consequences. This film is violent, intense and even funny at times. The romantic element between Hardy and Chastain adds an extra quality to make the entire cinematic …

The 80s action heroes head out on another mission, making this sequel better than the original.
Our team of action heroes get betrayed on an overseas mission, and they set out on revenge in "The Expendables 2." Sure, there are dopey scenes but the action sequences are great, with Chuck Norris' character stealing every scene he is in. Jean-Claude Van Damme plays a great bad guy, and his fight scenes with Sylvester Stallone are some of the best I've seen in a while. Arnold Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, seemed a bit rusty. But, really, he's never been much of an actor anyway. The action is non-stop from the opening scene to the climatic airport battle. It's fun to watch. "The Expendables 2" features just about every action star of the 80s. If you grew up with these guys it works as a great nostalgia trip. The Flick-O-Meter gives "…
