A Woodstock woman who was hit by a truck in an alleged hit-and-run incident last month in Athens opened her eyes for the first time. According to the Bows for Bowman Facebook page, Emily Bowman opened her eyes around 9:30 p.m. Thursday night. Bowman, a former Kennesaw State University student, has been in critical condition at Athens Regional Medical Center since she was allegedly hit by a man driving a red Mazda pick-up truck while she was in the city to celebrate the birthday of a friend. State Senator Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) has announced his resignation from the Georgia Senate. The senator will formally step down on Wednesday from the position he's held since 2004. Rogers, 44, said in a statement he plans to accept a position with Georgia Public Broadcasting. GPB is launching a new initiative in which it will "facilitate coverage of economic development and jobs in Georgia," according to a press release from Rogers' office. An Atlanta federal appeals court upheld the prison sentence of a 49-year-old Kennesaw ear, nose and throat doctor convicted of distributing child pornography. In March, Dr. Andrew Sutton was sentenced to eight years in prison. He challenged the length of the sentence, but the appeals court said Sutton's offense was “particularly serious because his actions bordered on production of child pornography." Norcross Police say Griselda Cibrian, a 14-year-old from Glennville, Ga., who was reported missing Sunday afternoon and found in Norcross on Monday morning, went voluntarily with 24-year-old Raymundo Aranda-Parra, and it was not an abduction. Raymundo Aranda-Parra has been charged with interference with custody and statutory rape, according to Norcross Police. Cleveland “L.A.” Brady, 22, of Marietta, is wanted for two armed robberies. On Nov. 2, Brady, along with an unidentified accomplice, robbed the Viva Mexico Restaurant on Powder Springs Road, according to Marietta Police. Police said Brady is also wanted for the robbery of a pizza delivery driver on Franklin Road, which occurred Oct. 30, 2012. Two Woodstock women were arrested this week in connection with multiple burglaries at assisted living facilities, one of them in Acworth. Candace Janet Ballard, 31, and Jayne Cherelle Phillips, 23, are in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, each charged with three counts of burglary and two counts of credit card fraud, Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce said Friday afternoon in a news release. Cobb investigators were led to the suspects after a report of an Oct. 13 theft at Acworth's Heritage at Brookstone Assisted Living Facility, 5235 Stilesboro Road. Caris Ayala was last seen in a black Toyota T-100 with a Georgia tag BKM9384, according to Sandy Springs Police Capt. Steve Rose. She is wanted for the felony murder of a five-month-old boy. Ayala was the infant's babysitter. She and her husband Noe Castillo-Ramirez fled before a second police interview. They are traveling with their seven-month-old child. An East Cobb jewelry store was robbed on Thursday afternoon, and Cobb Police are searching for the suspect and his accomplice. Police said the man walked into the Edward-Johns Jewelers and asked an employee to see a specific piece of jewelry. As the employee opened up the display case, the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded that the item be given to him, Pierce said. The suspect fled the scene with the jewelry in a red Honda driven by a female occupant. More details come from East Cobb Patch.
