The Marietta Police Department’s Training Unit will host a Firearm Safety Seminar on Thursday, Feb. 28. This seminar is designed for civilians and will cover a variety of topics including: safety, laws and alternative weapon usage. The seminar is free of charge. “This program has been developed to educate the citizens on current firearm laws and weapon safety. We want to equip citizens with the knowledge and skills so they feel confident owning and handling a firearm or weapon if they choose to do so,” said Sergeant Jake King of the Marietta Police Training Unit. A Florida truck driver has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide after an early-morning accident on Cobb Parkway killed a Marietta motorist and halted traffic on the busy thoroughfare for several hours. Marietta Police said James David Rast, Jr., 47, of Jay, Fla., who also was charged with failure to yield, is being held in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on a $250,000 bond. The victim was identified by police as Mahmoud Dabdoub, 49, of Marietta. Police said Rast was driving a Freightliner tractor trailer around 7:15 a.m. when he attempted to turn southbound onto Cobb Parkway from Industrial Park Drive. A chemical spill from an overturned truck has shut down a portion of Cobb Parkway Monday afternoon. Marietta Police issued an alert at 3:20 p.m. Monday saying that Cobb Parkway is closed in both directions between Allgood Road and Bells Ferry Road "till further notice" because of a chemical spill from an overturned truck. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a truck carrying 50,000 pounds of sodium hydroxide overturned at Cobb Parkway and Industrial Park Drive, near the Canton Road interchange. The report indicated that a nearby motel and business were evacuated as a precaution. Police expect Cobb Parkway to be closed "well into the evening time" and that motorists should seek alternative routes.

Marietta Police are looking for a man who has been missing since Monday afternoon. At approximately 12:25 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 17, Richard Linton, 37, walked out of his job at Northeast Cobb's TASQ Electronics, 1169 Canton Rd., Marietta, for his lunch break. However, after Linton’s departure, he was neither seen nor heard from again by anyone at his job or within his family. Richard Linton is a white male, approximately 5’09” tall and weighing around 179 pounds. Linton has short brown hair and hazel eyes. He has a tattoo of a scorpion on one of his forearms. Marietta Police are looking into allegations of inappropriate contact made towards female children in the wave pool of White Water amusement park located at 250 Cobb Parkway. Numerous witnesses have identified a possible suspect described as an older white male between the ages of 50 and 70 with white hair, according to Marietta Police. Witnesses stated they observed the man having inappropriate contact with young female children in the wave pool, according to a press release from Marietta Police. The incidents occurred between the end of August and beginning of September. Detectives are asking parents to question their female children between six and 12 years of age who were at the wave pool in White Water during the incident time frame …

A Marietta coach/trainer was arrested for multiple sexual assaults against a minor at his office at the Champion Softball Complex over a two-year time frame.
Isuru Pasan Perera, 31, of Marietta was arrested for multiple sexual offenses against a minor. Perera was taken into custody without incident on Saturday, Sept. 8, and is being held without bond at the Cobb County Jail, according to Marietta Police. The original incident occurred in June of 2010 when the female juvenile victim attended the Champion Softball Complex located at 505 Commerce Park Drive, according to Marietta Police. Perera, who was the victim’s coach/trainer, used his position to "coerce and intimidate the victim to commit multiple sexual acts against her," Police said. Jerome George “Jerry” Cundy of Woodstock led Cherokee and Cobb authorities on a chase after he allegedly robbed a Woodstock convenience store Sunday morning.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the man killed Sunday in an officer-involved shooting on I-75 as 53-year-old Jerome George “Jerry” Cundy of Woodstock. Cundy allegedly robbed a Woodstock convenience store Sunday morning, then led Cobb and Cherokee law enforcement on a chase from a Marathon station on Bells Ferry Road in Woodstock and down I-75, to just south of the North Marietta Parkway. Police stopped the vehicle there, and Cundy aimed his gun at officers, who shot and killed him, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said Sunday. When a stolen vehicle driven by a Florida man broke down Monday night on Interstate 75 in Cobb County, his luck eluding authorities back home ran out. Marietta Police have detained Thomas Heath, 34, whom law enforcement officials in Orange County, Fla., want to question in connection with the kidnapping and death of an Ocoee, Fla., man. Heath has been charged with grand theft auto. Jay Stone, 30, a custodian at Walt Disney World, was found dead in his apartment Saturday, according to Orlando TV station WESH, which also reported that Heath and his family had befriended and moved in with the victim earlier this month. The Marietta Police Department offers advice on getting to work and school on time and reviews bus laws.
Monday, Aug. 13 is the start of the up-coming school year for the Cobb County School District. Vehicular and pedestrian traffic will increase, especially in subdivisions and apartment complexes. Large numbers of parents and children will be congregating on street corners. Marietta Police are advising residents to slowdown and pay careful attention in these areas and watch for buses and as they stop to load and unload their passengers. Allow for extra time to get to work or to drop kids off at school. Reduced speed limits in school zones will be active and indicated by flashing yellow lights. As a reminder, state law requires that traffic in both directions stop for school buses loading and unloading their passengers. The only exception …
