If it's New Year's Day, the Lassiter High School marching band must be in action. It certainly seems that way, as the Northeast Cobb school will be included Tuesday in the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, Calif. It will be the fourth time Lassiter has been invited to the parade, which is more than a precursor to the Rose Bowl football game between Wisconsin and Stanford later Tuesday. The parade is one of the signature events of New Year's Day, with or without a pigskin in play. The Lassiter High School marching band will have a Tournament of Roses Parade send-off concert Thursday in the school gymnasium. The concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will feature music the band will play in the New Year's Day parade on the streets of Pasadena, Calif. The band also will perform music from its 2012 halftime show, "The Music of Ron Nelson." The concert is open to the public and is free of charge. Lassiter is located at 2601 Shallowford Road, just north of Sandy Plains Road. The Lassiter Band will be making its fourth trip to the Tournament of Roses Parade, following appearances in 1988, 2001 and 2005. Over the years Lassiter bands also have marched multiple times in the Orange Bowl Parade and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day …

The Lassiter High School marching band will be making it’s fourth event appearance at the 124th Tournament of Roses parade.
Lassiter High School marching band members congregated for a surprise announcement Tuesday morning: they won a worldwide contest to perform in the 2013 Rose Bowl Parade. This will be the fourth time that Alfred Watkins, Lassiter High School band director for the past 30 years, and the school’s marching band, will participate in the Rose Bowl, which is viewed globally by approximately 2 billion people. “We have to apply two years in advance to participate in the parade,” said Watkins. "We submitted a video and audio recording, along with letters of recommendation, and out of the hundreds of bands that applied, we were chosen once again.” High school marching bands can only submit applications to perform in the Rose Bowl every five years, …
