Reuters reports that the American Kennel Club released its annual ranking of the most popular dog breeds and the Labrador retriever again ranked as the country’s top dog. No. 2 was the German shepherd, followed by the golden retriever and then the beagle. Reuters reports the smaller breeds are losing ground this year, with bulldogs taking fifth place, dropping the Yorkie down to sixth. Boxers came in seventh. The Labrador retriever has held its position at the front of the pack for 22 years now, reportedly tying a record established in the 1980s and 1990s by the poodle, which came in eighth this year.
