Northeast Cobb Coaches Ready for Kickoff

With the high school football season little more than a week away, the six head coaches from East Cobb and Northeast Cobb schools previewed their seasons on Wednesday.  Half of them -- Kell, Lassiter and Walton -- will be participating in the Corky Kell Classic at the Georgia Dome next Saturday.  The season begins on Aug. 26 for Pope, Sprayberry and Wheeler.  The coaches spoke to the Cobb Chamber of Commerce's East Cobb Area Council breakfast at the Indian Hills Country Club.  Teams have been practicing for the last three weeks, with most teams working out in the early morning hours as Cobb schools have prohibited outdoor activities in the afternoons because of the heat.  "We're anxious to hit somebody else," said coach Jep Irwin of …

Students Receive Millions in Scholarships

Sprayberry, Lassiter and Kell students worked hard to earn scholarships from across the country.

What do late study nights, last minute cramming sessions and study groups get you? Money! Northeast Cobb high school students were rewarded for years of hard work and dedication. Lassiter High School students earned over 2 million dollars in HOPE scholarships not to mention millions in specialised scholarships. Viewfinder: Star Wars and Lego

Creativity, concentration and a lot of fun at the first Annual Lego competition at Kell High School.

4th - 6th grade students raced to be the fastest and most accurate builder of a Lego set. The prize - a coveted Lego Death Star worth $400. The competition was sponsored by Kell High School's Robotics Team and Cobb EMC. Each student left with their Lego set built during the competition round and over a dozen students left with really nice Lego sets as well.

Lego Competition Benefited Kell Robotics

127 excited students registered for this challenge that benefited the Kell High School Robotics team.

Kell Robotics and Cobb EMC joined forces and hosted the first annual Lego competition at Kell High School on Friday. This created an opportunity for kids to get excited about education. The competition was open to 5th and 6th graders. 4th graders asked to be included, so the competition was expanded. Each grade level competed separately. Students were each given a number and were seated at tables. In front of each competitor was a small pizza box. To save time for the students, lego sets were prepared in advance. Plastic wrappers were taken off and the instruction booklet was taped shut except for the instructions required to build the lego bulldozer for the competition. Cobb Wind Symphony Performs At Kell

With its high popularity and good reputation, the Cobb Wind Symphony has a wait list of nearly 150.

The Cobb Wind Symphony held a free performance at Kell High School. This all-adult symphony is composed of more than 100 members and gives a winter performance each year at a local high school as well as other performances throughout the year. Twice a month practices are held at Lassiter High School. Members have been playing their instruments anywhere from eight to 57 years. Instruments played in the symphony include flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussions. Alfred L. Watkins is the conductor. Robert Cowles is the assistant conductor. Watkins was director of bands at Lassiter High School since 1982. Cowles served as director of bands at Walton High from 1975 to 1999.
