Davis and Keheley elementary school staffers and students will find spruced-up buildings and campuses when they return for the 2012-13 year. The Cobb County Board of Education approved construction contracts for SPLOST-funded work at both Northeast Cobb schools during its meeting Thursday night. Keheley will get more work than expected. The base project included enlarging a viewing window from the front office to the lobby, renovating all restrooms, resurfacing the playground, and replacing damaged glass in the windows in the clerestory, where leaking has been a perennial problem. I can try to get more information during the week, but if a grant is available in place of SPLOST funds, that allows the SPLOST money to be spent on other projects on the list. There isn't enough SPLOST money to pay for every possible project in the SPLOST notebook.   more ›

Davis, Keheley Renovations on Agenda

The Cobb Board of Education also will talk strategy with Northeast Cobb pastor Ike Reighard.

Northeast Cobb pastor Ike Reighard will help pump up the Cobb County Board of Education’s core this morning. Reighard, the spiritual leader at Piedmont Church and the CEO of MUST Ministries, is on the agenda for “core values training” at the board’s monthly work session, which starts at 8:30 a.m. That session will focus on revamping the Cobb County School District’s strategic plan, The Marietta Daily Journal reported. The plan runs through 2014 but rarely plays a role in school board decisions. The work session also will delve deeper into budget issues. The school district’s finance chief, Mike Addison, will give an update on the budget picture for the fiscal year starting July 1. It hasn’t improved much from January, when he warned of the…
