If you've got goods to be recycled, Keep Cobb Beautiful reminds you of its recycle drop spot in Northeast Cobb in the Mountain View government complex area. The Cobb Board of Commissioners District 3 location is at 2905 Library Lane, at the Cobb Fire Station 14 and the behind the Mountain View Regional Library. The goods accepted include mixed paper, plastics, aluminum, steel cans and flattened cardboard. Glass is not accepted. For more information, visit the Keep Cobb Beautiful website. This Saturday, March 16, KCB will be having a document shredding and shoe collection day in Northeast Cobb, at Piedmont Church, 570 Piedmont Road.

Keep Marietta Beautiful and Keep Cobb Beautiful will host a document-shredding event at Piedmont Church on March 16.
If you have confidential or sensitive documents that need to be safely discarded, Keep Marietta Beautiful and Keep Cobb Beautiful are hosting free document-shredding events. In addition, if you have gently-worn shoes, you can donate them. Rubber band the pairs of shoes to keep them together. Documents can be taken to one of three locations in the county.
Keep Cobb Beautiful, Keep Smyrna Beautiful and Keep Marietta Beautiful are joining forces to allow Cobb residents to dispose of unwanted documents by shredding them on Saturday. From 9 a.m. to noon, there will be three locations at which residents may have their documents shredded for free. Residents may bring up to 100 pounds of paper to be shredded. Landscapers and other groups may volunteer to adopt a gateway or right of way and keep the greenery clean and maintained.
Due to budget cuts in the last two years, the efforts of the Cobb County Department of Transportation (DOT) have been restricted to maintaining the safety of roadways in the county, while the surrounding greenery has been left to suffer. Keep Cobb Beautiful is looking for volunteer organizations that would be willing to adopt gateways and right of ways in the county for the purposes of cleaning and improving the green space around the roads. As part of the Adopt-A-Gateway Program, landscapers and other volunteer groups would be given one of 11 gateways to Cobb County to showcase their talents and expertise and will improve the scenery of these important entrances to the county. Residents will have the opportunity to recycle broken or unwanted appliances when Keep Cobb Beautiful hosts Appliance Amnesty Day 7 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, July 21. The event is sponsored by KCB and Advanced Disposal Services and will be held at Cobb County Waste Disposal/Transfer Station, 1897 County Services Parkway, Marietta. Many appliances will be accepted for free, including stoves, dryers, washers, microwaves, dishwashers, water heaters, lawn mowers and outdoor power tools. Appliances with freon/refrigerant, such as freezers, refrigerators and air conditioning units, will have a $5 disposal processing fee, which is usually $12. For questions about items accepted and disposal fees, call Advanced Disposal Services at 770-485-8940.

The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta’s award-winning East Cobb preschool, The Sunshine School, recently received grants for its Organic Learning Gardens. The gardens were created to help preschoolers identify, understand, and demonstrate the life cycles of plants and animals. The grants are for $2,000 from the Whole Kids Foundation (a Whole Foods Market foundation), and for $1,000 from Keep Cobb Beautiful, and will enhance the activities that teach children how to take care of the environment, while recognizing that people create food from natural resources. Keep Cobb Beautiful is recycling electronics and collecting shoe donations Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Sprayberry High School in Northeast Cobb and Jim Miller Park in Marietta. You can dispose of computer monitors, microwaves, telephones, cellphones, video game systems, printers, camera, VCRs, fax machines, radios and many other consumer electronics free. There's a $10 fee to drop off televisions. Donations of all styles of shoes will go to Soles4Souls, which will deliver them to needy people around the world.

Don't throw out that Christmas Tree. Bring one for the Chipper! From today through Saturday, Keep Cobb Beautiful is sponsoring "Bring One for the Chipper," a free tree-recycling drop off at Noonday Creek Park, 489 Hawkins Store Road, Kennesaw and Harrison Park, 2650 Shallowford Road, Marietta. Christmas trees can be recycled to create fuel, mulch, habitats for wildlife and other useful materials. After Jan. 8, free mulch will be provided to Cobb citizens at Cobb Parks chipper locations as well as at Davey Trees (770-451-7911).
