The Georgia Department of Labor's Big Shanty Road facility will hold recruitments on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) will help the Department of Juvenile Justice and Home Depot fill a number of jobs next week in Cobb County. The recruitments will be held at the GDOL’s Cobb-Cherokee Career Center, located at 465 Big Shanty Road in Marietta. The recruitment for the Department of Juvenile Justice will be held Wednesday, Oct. 31, from 10 a.m. to noon. The department will be recruiting correctional officers to work at its facility for youth offenders. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or a General Education Diploma (GED). If you've been in the Northeast Cobb Home Depot lately you've noticed the large seed displays near the garden section. If you are eager for spring, starting seeds at home can satisfy your gardening itch. Starting indoor seeds is easy. If you are a beginner, it's best to choose plants known to be easy to grow from seed, such as sunflowers, marigolds and zinnias. Primrose is a good choice for sun or shade. Pink Dianthus is simple and fragrant. The seed packet will give directions for placing seedlings in a cool (45 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit) or warm place (70 to 85 degrees) for germination. In 2012, there will be a multi-year phase-out of incandescent light bulbs as part of the nation’s move towards cleaner energy.
The Home Depot will host a series of how-to workshops at 10 a.m. every Saturday in January to educate customers about the phase out of incandescent light bulbs and various light bulb options. Workshops will also provide handy tips for installing specialty light bulbs, fixtures and dimmer switches. Lighting department associates in all stores have been trained to answer customers’ questions about the phase out and can help identify the light bulbs that best suit their needs. The Home Depot has more than 100 bulb options that use 70 percent less energy than their incandescent equivalents.
