The Lassiter High School and Walton High School swimming teams both finished in the Top 10 in the Georgia High School Association Class AAAAAA swimming meet Saturday at Georgia Tech. The Trojans boys and girls each turned in 3rd-place showings, while the Raiders boys and girls both came in eighth place. The 211 points by Lassiter trailed 234 for defending state champion Parkview and the 226 by Chattahoochee. Lassiter senior Jimmy Yoder ended his illustrious high school career with four state titles, as the The Marietta Daily Journal details today, and Zach Bunner had two. Walton High School's swimming teams knew their toughest competition in the Cobb County Championships was going to be their rivals from Lassiter High School. But the Raiders' boys easily outraced the runner-up Trojans by 37 points Saturday in claiming a county title at the Mountain View Aquatic Center. On the girls' side was the most notable news. Not only did Walton clip Lassiter by 28 points, but the Lady Raiders also won their first Cobb title since 2008. Walton has been the only school other than Lassiter to win the girls' title in the last 14 years. At Saturday's Cobb Quad swimming meet, the Longhorn boys and girls finished fourth in Division II, while Lassiter's girls were second and boys fourth in Division I and Sprayberry matched those results in Division III.

None of Northeast Cobb's swimming teams came away as winners at the four-division Cobb Quad meet Saturday at the Central Aquatic Center, but they did have individual winners. Kell's Josh Hanson won the 100 backstroke, and the Longhorns also got a win in diving from Austin Rives. The Longhorn boys and girls finished fourth overall in the four-team Division II meet, the Marietta Daily Journal reported. In Division I, swimming power Lassiter finished second among the girls and fourth among the boys, the MDJ said, while Sprayberry's girls were second and boys were fourth in Division III. Basketball grabs the spotlight Friday night and Saturday, leading up to the highlight of the weekend, Walton's bid for the first Cobb County state football championship since 1967. Saturday's court action includes four games at Allatoona High in the Coaches vs. Cancer breast cancer awareness event.
