Six Cobb Teams Reach State Softball

Pope and Lassiter are in action Thursday in the Georgia High School Association championships in Columbus.

The Lassiter High School softball team is back in a familiar place. The Lady Greyhounds of Pope High School are in a brand new place. They're two of the six Cobb teams that have reached this stage of the tournament, which is previewed in full by The Marietta Daily Journal.  Lassiter plays East Coweta at 6 p.m. today, which along with Kennesaw Mountain, Hillgrove and Harrison make up half of the Class AAAAAA field. Lassiter Suffers Double Disappointment

The Lady Trojans are knocked out of the state playoffs in softball and volleyball.

Lassiter’s AAAAA playoff runs in softball and volleyball ended last week. In softball, the Region 5-AAAAA champion Lady Trojans dropped the finale of a Georgia High School Association second-round series Friday at home to Mill Creek, 6-1. Lassiter took the lead on a solo home run from Carli Kayler in the second inning, but the Hawks outhit the Trojans, 8-4, and used Lassiter errors to take the win and the best-of-three series, the Gwinnett Daily Post reported. Lassiter’s coach, Scott Kelly, told the Daily Post that the better team won and that you don’t win series when you make 12 errors in three games, as the Trojans did. Lassiter, which won the first game of the series, 2-1, and lost the second, 9-2, ends the year with a 24-10 record, …

Lassiter and Mill Creek split a doubleheader at the Northeast Cobb high school Thursday, the Marietta Daily Journal reported. The Trojans won the opener, 2-1, but lost the second game, 9-2, to force a decisive game today in the best-of-three second-round series. The winner advances to play Hillgrove on Thursday at the Georgia High School Association championships in Columbus. That tournament is double-elimination and runs through Saturday. Also qualifying for the eight-team field are North Cobb, Kennesaw Mountain, Milton, Brookwood, Collins Hill and East Coweta. Also facing a decisive Game 3 today is…
