Northeast Cobb Road Work Update

Construction continues along Shiloh Road and Shallowford Road this week.

Here are the latest updates on road work being done in the Northeast Cobb area, according to the Cobb Department of Transportation. Georgia DOT continues work on the intersection and ramps at I-575 and Barrett Parkway. This project is scheduled to complete in June 2013. The Noonday Creek Trail Phase 2C project will add 2.5 miles of multi-use trail from Barrett Lakes Boulevard to Bells Ferry Road behind Town Center Mall. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2014.

Here are the latest updates on road work being done around Cobb County, according to Commissioners Bob Ott, Helen Goreham, JoAnn Birrell and Lisa Cupid. Davidson Road to Willow Point Pkwy Willow Point Pkwy to Timber Ridge Road Karls Gate Drive to Lake Fjord Pass GDOT I-285 Top-End Resurfacing Project Expect delays as Georgia DOT continues working on a $56 million resurfacing project on I-285. Crews will resurface 10 miles of I-285 between Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County and Ashford Dunwoody Road in DeKalb County. Most work will take place nights and weekends. GDOT Issues Inclement Weather Road Advisory

GDOT is urging motorists to monitor weather conditions in advance with the possibility of light snow and icy roadways expected Thursday and Friday in areas of North Georgia.

Weather forecasts for areas of north Georgia and Douglas, Paulding and Cobb counties, and possibly black ice accumulations on roadways as far south as Columbus beginning Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. Due to the expected inclement weather, the Georgia Department of Transportation urges motorists to plan ahead before traveling during this timeframe and check weather and road conditions before heading out. “We are continuously monitoring current weather conditions and forecasts as snow flurries and high winds are predicted for north Georgia," said Keith Golden, Georgia DOT Commissioner. "Weather forecasts indicate snow, black ice, fallen trees and damaged traffic signals are possible from Thursday evening through Friday morning…

Highway Lane May Open as Rush Hour Ends

Commuters on Hwy. 92 northbound have contended with construction since Sunday morning, but relief may be in site.

A check of the Patch Commuter traffic map shows that left lane on Hwy. 92 northbound by Sandy Plains Road remains closed, but it may reopen later this evening. The Georgia Department of Transportation reported the construction began Sunday at 10:23 a.m., and may end by 7:55 p.m. today, July 23. 350 Accident Calls, Stranded Motorists

Cobb commuters braved icy conditions and freezing temperatures last night and this morning.

Cobb County police reported 350 accident calls last night. Ice is blamed for stranded motorists, traffic jams, and hundreds of accidents. Yesterday afternoon, Cobb County and the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) said that they had crews ready to respond to calls about ice patches. Cobb took preventative measures by having 10 vehicles and 40 people spread a salt gravel mix on the roads. By evening, dozens of cars were sliding into each other and off the road on Johnson Ferry Road, Canton Highway, Ebenezer Road, and Chastain Meadows Parkway. "I was on Johnson Ferry Road and all I could see was the black, wet road and reflections of headlights everywhere," said Marcia Long, who commuted through Northeast Cobb early this morning. …
