Chattahoochee Technical College culinary students competed in the First Annual Chili Cook-Off for bragging rights and prizes.
Four teams of Culinary Arts students participated in the First Annual Chili Cook-Off at Chattahoochee Technical College's (CTC) Mountain View campus on Monday. “This was the students’ idea,” said Chef Hillary Gallagher, lead instructor at CTC. “Plans are to make it an annual tradition here at the college.” Teams began preparing their entries at 9 a.m. The judging took place around 2 p.m. In addition to bragging rights, the students are competing for knives donated by Mercer and Albert Uster and olive oil donated by Southern Foods. This past week the media and cyberspace were all a-twitter either praising or demonizing Deen's decision to be a paid spokeswoman for a Type 2 diabetes drug.
It's safe to assume that Paula Deen's lifestyle choices—food, smoking and lack of exercise—have led to her disease. For anyone who errs on the side of genes, please note: Genes load the gun, but lifestyle pulls the trigger. Rather than focus on Ms. Deen's lifestyle choices, diabetes and ultimate decision to promote a diabetes drug, I'd rather focus on the American food culture. She is just one spoke in our messed -p food culture wheel. Here's just the tip of the iceberg. We have "hero" athletes pushing Oreos (Eli Manning, Shaq, and more), TV shows pushing Coke/Pepsi (Idol/X Factor), and a Main Street that is loaded with junk food. Chattahoochee Technical College Mountain View campus culinary students learn the finer points of using ice for food serving and displays.
Jim Duggan, former Chattahoochee Technical College (CTC) instructor and owner of Ice Sculpture Inc., was guest teacher at the Chattahoochee Technical College on Tuesday instructing culinary students in the skillful art of ice sculpting. Duggan volunteers his teaching services twice a year at CTC in an effort to give back to the community and inspire future chefs in the method of food display and event decoration through the use of ice. “I became interested in ice sculpting while I was cooking at the Atlanta Country Club several years ago. The restaurant used ice sculptures for functions at the club. I started learning how to make them myself. Over the course of four or five years, I decided I wanted to do ice sculpting full-time," said …

You can study culinary arts, interior design, television production technology and core classes at the Mountain View campus of Chattahoochee Technical College.
The Mountain View campus at 2680 Gordy Parkway, north of Sandy Plains Road, is Chattahoochee Technical College's (CTC) site for the three specialized associate degree programs. Culinary arts graduates are prepared for careers as cooks, bakers, caterers and culinary managers. They study regional and contemporary cuisines, baking, banquet preparation, food safety, menu development, nutrition, hors d'œuvres, food purchasing, front-of-house services and food service leadership.
