Tuesday, May 1, 2012
A public hearing on a proposal to designate priority industrial areas in Cobb County is on the agenda this morning for the county Planning Commission. The commission heard a quick overview of the concept during its meeting April 3 but postponed the hearing until today so signs could be placed at the four proposed priority areas to inform the public. None of the initial sites is in Northeast Cobb. The closest locations are at McCollum Field in Kennesaw and south of Marietta at the intersection of Powder Springs Road and the East-West Connector. Northeast Cobb itself isn't on the planning agenda today, although two items from East Cobb are: The meeting will be held in the second-floor boardroom at the county government building at 100 …

Unemployment for county residents a year earlier was 8.9 percent.

Thursday, April 26, 2012
Cobb County’s unemployment rate fell to 8.1 percent in March, according to preliminary figures announced today by the Georgia Department of Labor. The state Labor Department attributed the Atlanta-area improvements to fewer layoffs in construction, manufacturing, trade, and administrative and support services. The statewide gains the past year came in professional and business services, trade and transportation, education and health services, manufacturing, and…

Thursday, March 15, 2012
Cobb County’s unemployment rate rose to 8.4 percent in January as the number of people looking for work in the county rose by almost 1,200, the Georgia Department of Labor reported today. Because the local job numbers are not adjusted for seasonal factors, such as a post-holiday slowdown in retail sales and a winter lull in construction, the most meaningful comparison is with the statistics from a year ago, not a month ago. Almost 9,500 more Cobb residents were working in January 2012 than in January 2011, the state Labor Department found: 342,612 vs. 333,154. The January number for Cobb is lower than the preliminary …
