Community Spotlight: 5K Benefit Run for Injured High School Grad [VIDEO]

Join the Lassiter High School community this weekend to support an injured high school student.

This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the Christopher Heitzman Benefit 5K Run. The event takes place Saturday morning at Lassiter High School, with proceeds to help pay for medical expenses for the injured graduate. Heitzman, who graduated from Lassiter last spring, was seriously injured in a car accident last July that killed his classmate, Ryan Aschenbach, and injured another recent Lassiter graduate. Heitzman sustained a head injury and several broken bones, and will need more surgeries. The fundraiser has collected just under $40,000 from pre-registration, and is hoping to raise more money to help cover Heitzman's medical expenses. 5K Run for Injured Lassiter Graduate

Saturday's event will help pay for medical expenses for Christopher Heitzman.

The Lassiter High School community is rallying this weekend to support one of its own. The Christopher Heitzman Benefit 5K Run takes takes place Saturday morning at the school, with proceeds to help pay for medical expenses. Heitzman, who graduated from Lassiter last spring, was seriously injured in July in a car accident on Trickum Road that killed his classmate, Ryan Aschenbach. Another recent Lassiter graduate in the car, Taylor Seaman, also was injured in the accident and is a freshman at Georgia College in Milledgeville, where Heitzman was planning to attend on a baseball scholarship.
