Bill Makes Chatt Tech More Accessible

The governor has signed a bill to help students afford the cost of attending Georgia's technical colleges.

Gov. Nathan Deal has signed a bill that will expand access to schools such as Chattahoochee Technical College, which has a campus in Northeast Cobb. House Bill 372 lowers the GPA requirement for the HOPE Grant from a 3.0 to a 2.0. The HOPE Grant goes to students who attend schools in the Technical College System of Georgia. It was just two years ago that the GPA requirement was raised from 2.0 to 3.0 for budgetary reasons. During that time, “Georgia has seen a large drop in technical college enrollment – much larger than in our University System,” Deal said Wednesday in a statement. “For some students enrolled in a technical school, the loss of scholarship money put higher education out of reach. More Than 75 Companies to Come to Marietta Career Fair

More than 75 companies, organizations and colleges have signed up for the Chattahoochee Technical College's Fall College and Career Fair.

The Chattahoochee Technical College Office of Career Services' Fall College and Career Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13 at the Marietta campus. More than 75 companies, organizations and colleges have already signed up for the event.   A premier event for Chattahoochee Technical College students, alumni and the community, the College and Career Fair will be held at the Marietta Campus in the atrium and surrounding areas from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Career Services Coordinator Lucylle Shelton said the fair typically attracts local and regional employers looking for full-time, part-time, seasonal and temporary workers, as well as interns. Boteler Named Executive Vice President at Chatt Tech

Trina Boteler, who has been serving the college as the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the interim Vice President of Community and Economic Development, is Chattahoochee Technical College’s new Executive Vice President.

Chattahoochee Technical College President Dr. Ron Newcomb recently announced Dr. Trina Boteler of Jasper has assumed the responsibilities of a newly created position at the college.  As of Dec. 1, Boteler, who has been serving the college as the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the interim Vice President of Community and Economic Development, became Chattahoochee Technical College’s new Executive Vice President. “Dr. Boteler is intimately familiar with CTC’s operational procedures and issues as well as with the vision, mission and strategic goals,” said Newcomb. “She has many years of senior-level leadership experience at multiple technical colleges and is widely respected as a high-energy and highly knowledgeable leader by the CTC …

Chatt Tech in the Top 100 List for 2-Year Colleges

Ranking 16 out of the top 100, Chattahoochee Technical College is one of five Georgia colleges to rank in the top 20.

Chattahoochee Technical College was recently named to the list of the Top 100 certificate-producing institutions in the United States among more than 1,800 two-year colleges that conferred such awards during the 2011-2012 academic year. Ranking 16 out of the top 100, Georgia’s largest technical college is one of five Georgia colleges to rank in the top 20. The rankings are determined by Community College Week magazine in each year. The magazine is published biweekly, and its readers include college presidents, chief academic officers, faculty, student-service professionals, librarians and other educators. Chatt Tech Tuition Increase for 2013

Students at the 25 Technical College System of Georgia colleges will pay $85 per credit hour beginning in the spring 2013 semester. As a result, tuition for a full, 15-hour course load will cost $1,275 next semester, or $150 more.

Earlier this month, the state board that oversees the Technical College System of Georgia approved the system’s request for a tuition increase of $10 per credit hour starting next year. “State resources continue to be tight,” said Chattahoochee Technical College President Ron Newcomb. “In order to provide our students with the quality services they deserve, this increase in tuition is necessary.” TCSG students at the 25 TCSG colleges will pay $85 per credit hour beginning in the spring 2013 semester. Chatt Tech to Recruit for Health Care Training

Chattahoochee Technical College will recruit unemployed workers and other students to enroll in short-term training classes for a variety of “in-demand” jobs in the health care field.

The Georgia Department of Labor’s (GDOL) Cobb-Cherokee Career Center will help Chattahoochee Technical College recruit unemployed workers and other students to enroll in short-term training classes for a variety of “in-demand” jobs in the health care field. The recruitment will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the career center, located at 465 Big Shanty Rd. in Marietta. The classes will be taught during the 2013 spring semester, beginning January 12. Representatives of the college, including training instructors, admissions officers, and financial aid personnel, will be on hand to provide information about the training programs. Chatt Tech Opens Doors to a New School Year

More than 12,400 students were registered for classes on the first day—in line with last year’s enrollment numbers. The college’s Marietta and North Metro campuses remain the top two options for students.

A new semester and school year started Friday at Chattahoochee Technical College with approximately 3,900 new students on the rolls. Georgia’s largest technical college began classes on August 17 at its eight campuses that span six counties in Northwest Georgia, including Northeast Cobb. “This is always an exciting time of year,” said Chattahoochee Technical College President Ron Newcomb. “We have new programs beginning and new students joining us for the first time. Online Enrollment Surpasses Traditional Chatt Tech Campuses

Summer semester starts today at Chattahoochee Technical College.

More students are taking classes at Chattahoochee Technical College this summer without ever setting foot on one of the college’s eight campuses. For the first time ever, the number of online students has surpassed enrollment at any one of the traditional campuses. “It is a sign of the times that we see more students looking toward the flexibility and convenience of online classes,” said Chattahoochee Technical College Vice President of Academic Affairs Trina Boteler. “Most of the online students are adults who prefer not to attend a traditional class setting because they're often juggling family and work responsibilities.” Despite the increasing popularity of online classes, distance learning has not replaced the traditional classroom at …
