Three right lanes of Interstate 75 South near Canton Road were temporarily closed when a Coca-Cola 18-wheeler hit a pickup truck.
Charges are expected to be filed in connection with an accident that forced authorities to temporarily close three right lanes of Interstate 75 South near Canton Road on Thursday afternoon. About 1:30 p.m, a woman in a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was driving in the left lane of the interstate, said Officer David Baldwin, the spokesman for the Marietta Police Department. "There was a car a little bit earlier before this woman that had two kayaks strapped to the top of her car," he said. "One of the kayaks broke loose and was laying in the left lane." The woman in the pickup truck swerved to the right to avoid the kayak. "When she did (that)," Baldwin said, "she lost control of her car, went across all lanes of 75, ended up …

Local parents Sheri Lewis and her neighbor Mandi Call had watched motorists pass their children’s bus on Post Oak Tritt for years. In 2009 a kindergartner at their children’s school was killed at a bus stop. “We vowed on that day that we would no longer sit by and watch motorists illegally pass school buses without trying to stop it. We would no longer take the “there is nothing we can do” answer from the police department, transportation department, and school district,” said Lewis. Operation Stop Arm (OSA) was born “to bring together the people and departments that have the power to change this behavior and help reduce the number of stop arm violations in our state,” according to Lewis. OSA wants to reduce the incidents and save children…

Kids enjoy sledding on the fourth day of no school.
Day four of no school was a blast for some. Streets were still frozen. Kids enjoyed sledding. As you can see in the video, cars were still sliding on the ice and the postal truck was out once again. Thursday was more of the same. I passed a car which slid off the road and totaled a neighbors white picket fence on Ebenezer Road. As I was taking my kids back to their dad's house, my car got stuck on a hill and wouldn't move an inch due to the incredibly thick ice. Their step-mom lovingly drove to meet us. She stopped at one end of the street. The kids were able to carefully walk up the icy hill holding my hand. I shifted my car in reverse and slid down the hill to safety. Fortunately, the forecast for Friday looks promising. Our ice problems…
